  • 1 cup olive oil

  • 1 cup water

  • Baking sheet

  • Parchment paper

  • Saucepan

  • Cheesecloth

  • Airtight glass container

  • Grinder (optional)

Preparation - Decarboxylating & Infusing

  1. Preheat oven to 245F

  2. Grind/break down the cannabis

  3. Cover the baking sheet with parchment paper

  4. Place the loosely broken cannabis onto the baking sheet and heat in the oven for about 30 minutes

  5. About halfway through (10-15 mins) gently stir/mix the buds to expose the other sides

  6. Heat the olive oil and decarbed cannabis in a double boiler, use a bowl over a saucepan with 1 cup of water in the saucepan underneath

  7. Simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally

  8. Strain the mixture through the cheese cloth into a jar or container

  9. Store in an airtight glass container in cool, dark place such as the pantry

Tips

  • grind by hand or use grinder, don’t use a food processor as it will be too fine and will fit through the mesh strainer/cheesecloth

  • use any oil you want : canola, vegetable, olive, peanut or sesame but olive is my preferred oil to cook with

  • high fat oils are best such as olive oil or coconut oil because THC, CBD & other cannabinoids are fat-soluble meaning they need to bind to fat molecules to become available for it to absorb

  • use a 1:1 ratio

  • older, drier cannabis may require less time decarbing

  • don’t leave it for longer than 45 minutes

  • decarboxylating is how you turn the inactive, non-intoxicating THCA in the plant to THC, the psychoactive compound that gets you high

  • dosing edibles are always difficult so start with less and increase it if you feel the need

  • if you have less time, you can set the oven to 300F for 10-15 min but low and slow is better to preserve the cannabinoids and terpenes

  • cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the plant, they interact with your body’s endocannabanoid system which effects different physiological functions such as sleep, mood, appetite - makes you feel high, mentally or physically

  • terpenes is a chemical substance that is found is plants or trees, the essential oils of plants, terpenes gives you the smell of the plant, orange or citrus fruits are high in terpenes

  • using a double boiler will prevent the oil from burning

  • you can simmer anywhere from 2-6 hours

  • simmer between 160F-200F, don’t let it come to a full boil, ideally at 180F

  • if you let it boil, it will decrease the cannabinoids potency

  • don’t squeeze out every bit of oil as this will add chlorophyll to the canna oil and it will give it the bad plant taste

  • if you want more potent then increase the amount of flower

  • if you want less potent then decrease the amount of flower

  • use it to cook anything from pastas to steaks or seafood or even salads
